Loft Conversion

A three-bedroom Victorian terrace in Chiswick that needed a fourth bedroom without losing the garden to an extension.

The answer was upwards: a rear dormer giving full head height across the back of the loft, a new staircase rising over the existing flight, and an en-suite tucked into the eaves where the ceiling is lowest. Two conservation rooflights face the street so the front elevation is unchanged from the pavement.

Almost all the structural work happened from an external scaffold, so the family only lost use of the landing for the few days the new stair went in. From the street you would not know the loft had been touched.
